New Augmented Reality Measure App in iOS 12
iOS, with the advent of the next version of iOS 12, that runs on all iPhones and iPads – will knockout Apple devices in the autumn of 2018. Are you eager to know…??? When will it be released to the public? And which iPads and iPhones can run it? We cover all the launch details in this article.
Apple Embeds the Biggest New Features into iOS 12
Apple unveiled its latest version Operating System iOS 12 with awestruck features. To count few:
Performance: “For iOS 12, we are doubling down on performance,” said software VP Craig Federighi. In iOS 12, apps launch 40 percent faster, the system keyboard comes up 50 percent faster, and opening the camera is 70 percent faster.
Screen Time: Like Google, Apple’s primary focus is to strike a better, healthier balance between gadgets and life. A new Screen Time feature in iOS 12 details how much time you’re spending on your device and using individual apps.
Memoji: iOS 12 has a feature that enables to create emojis/characters that resembles own appearance, hair style, choosing skin colour, and outfitting your Memoji with accessories.
AR Experience in iOS 12
Apple kick started its annual developer conference with a highlighting keynote presentation during which CEO Tim Cook and other high-profile executives declared that augmented reality (AR) experiences in iOS 12 will advantage from a new file format and many other enhancements.
The augmented reality based App in iOS 12 is an app called Measure, which Apple has designed to ease our effort to measure various real-world objects using 3D spatial detection techniques.
“Out of the 1,100 AR apps on the App Store, about 80 of them are measuring apps – or 7%” – says Randy Nelson, head of mobile insights at Sensor Tower, a mobile app analytics company. Considering how the Measure app will come standard on iOS 12, users will not hunt for a second AR measuring app from the App Store unless it has other special features or abilities.
This is hardly the first time Apple worked out on an existing app idea, developed a hit-list app and also made it standard. Apple slayed off the current concept of flashlight apps when they presented its own flashlight functionality to the Control Center. And do you remember the Bump app that enabled file sharing by “bumping” two phones together? That was made outdated by AirDrop, which lets phones share files, photos, data or contact information over the air.
Apple’s Measure App – Awesome AR Experience
Of all the new stuff in the iOS 12 beta, Apple’s big push into augmented reality is the Measure app.
With an advent of new app called Measure you can experience a new view on a real-world object using your iPhone’s camera. More remarkably, you can see a rectangular object such as a photo and the system will automatically recognize the shape and returns your measurements.
Announced at WWDC 2018, Measure is a default Apple app that will come to all iPhones in the fall. It uses Apple toolkit (ARKit) exclusively meant to develop AR-driven Apps, and uses the iPhone’s camera to compute the dimensions of objects seen on the screen. All that you need to do is to hold up your iPhone Mobile device to an object, tap the endpoints of the object you want to measure, and the app will figure out the measurements. It can measure and detect real-world objects.
The MacBook measurement is demonstrative of what Apple’s trying to do with Measure. Measure is actually a short cut to quickly scale the size of a space. This iPhone inbuilt App is a boon when measuring tape isn’t handy and absolute precision isn’t really required. This completes with trademark Apple “magic” — surely a big consideration in introducing the feature.
iOS updates roll out initially in pre-release testing version, BETA, following which the Apple users expects official release. The final public launch of iOS 12 is expected in the autumn – mostly in September 2018.
