Samsung Electronics, which is expecting its dual sim phones to contribute 15 per cent of its total handset volumes this year, will launch its own Operating System, Bada, in the second quarter of next fiscal, said Mr. Ranjit Yadav, Director, Mobile and IT, Samsung India here on Wednesday.

He was here on the occasion of the launch of two new dual sim handsets (B-5722 and Duos 259) taking the number of company’s dual sim handsets to six, including GSM and CDMA segments, in the range of Rs. 4,620-10,650.

He explained that dual sim phones were becoming the answer to consumers looking for better performance, value addition, segregation of numbers for personal and official transactions and attractive propositions from different service providers without the necessity of carrying two or three handsets.

Given the growing preference of Indian consumers towards downloading applications and customising them to meet their needs, Samsung India also hosted a Java application store on Samsung Fun Club with access to 40 multimedia applications, Mr. Yadav said.

Another ten more applications on Samsung Fun Club would be added by the end of this month, Mr. Yadav said. For its proprietary Bada platform too, the company would be working with Indian developers to develop applications for the same, he said.

About business plans for 2010, Mr. Yadav said the company would focus on every segment, touch screen, dual sim and 3G compliant phones and already ten Samsung models were 3G ready. Of a total mobile market of 110 million units last year, Samsung’s share in terms of volume was 15.7 per cent and 20 per cent with regard to value. This year, the company was looking at 8-10 per cent growth, he added.
